Dr. Avery is a a Licensed Professional Counselor and Practice Consultant.
She received a B.A. in Psychology and M.Ed. in Community Counseling from Delta State University. She received her Ph.D. at Jackson State University in Public Policy and Administration. She started her career at Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi, working as an Outpatient Therapist, Intensive Outpatient Coordinator and Clinical Supervisor. Jerri spent her next 18 years working at the MS Department of Mental Health where she administered more than $20 million annually in behavioral health funding to provide state-level leadership in treatment and prevention services. Following her tenure there, she worked in executive leadership roles such as Executive Director and Clinical Director for residential, intensive outpatient, sober living and outpatient treatment programs serving individuals with co-occurring disorders.
Jerri has served on the MS Opioid and Heroin Summit planning committee, Board of Directors for the McCoy House for Sober Living, MS Drug Court Advisory Committee, National Prevention Network, National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Directors, Director of the Southeastern School for Alcohol and Drug Addiction, and was co-founder and Director of the MS School for Addiction Professionals for ten years. She is a graduate of the Stennis Institute of Government’s State Executive Development Institute, a certified public manager and an Adjunct Professor for Belhaven University. Jerri has worked more than 20 years in the behavioral field in both administrative and direct services. Her primary role is that of practice management consultant and she also enjoys developing treatment plans for individuals needing help for alcoholism and other substance use disorders. She knows managing the treatment process can be complex and confusing for families, especially when experiencing crisis related to substance use. She works with individuals and families to design a treatment protocol designed for their specific needs and accompanies the individual and family from treatment engagement to treatment placement and follow-up care. She is certified in Psychological First Aid. Her therapeutic approaches include Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, Experiential Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Through Killebrew Psychological Services, created in 2016, Killebrew works with doctoral-level and LPC-eligible students by supervising them and offering them an opportunity to practice evidence-based therapies and psychological assessment
administration. She currently has six students training in DBT and prolonged exposure therapy and psychological assessments. In her private practice, Killebrew does pre-surgical evaluations, testing for posttraumatic stress disorder and full psychological assessments for all personality and mood disorders.
